A Message from the Principal

The new school year is here, and we can't wait!

First, thank you for checking out Westwood's webpage. For pictures, videos, and other content, be sure to also follow us on Twitter @Westwood_Middle and like our Facebook page @WestwoodMiddleWarriors. Combined with our webpage, you'll find important updates and notifications. If you ever need to contact me, please email me at jbconrad@k12.wv.us.

One of the reasons that we are all so excited at Westwood is that we can't wait to continue our Empowerment Academy. For those of you who don't know, Westwood Middle School is part of a state pilot program that includes only three middle schools!

What does it mean to be an Empowerment Academy? Briefly, it means that we are empowering our students to lead their educational experience. This can happen because we use project based learning opportunities to explore careers and to simulate the workplace environment. In other words, our faculty and staff are committed to making learning relevant, meaningful, and FUN!

We are in the second year of our pilot program, and we look forward to continuing our journey of revolutionizing education. We are calling on our community experts (YOU) to help us on this journey. We want our students to be immersed in real-world jobs and careers, and that means that we want our students to get out into the community and experience things first-hand. Additionally, we want our community experts to come into our school and work hand-in-hand with our educators to show students what is waiting for them after school. If this sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, please contact us, and we'll get the ball rolling!

With your help and support, our community can thrive. After all, our mission at Westwood is to create a positive, nurturing environment where ALL students will explore their interests and create their own personal success stories. When students are empowered to create their own personal success, we all will accomplish wonderful things! Let's show our students that they are an integral part of our community, and when the time comes, they will remain in our community, making it even better in the years to come.

Again, we can't wait for this school year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Conrad
